Request to Connect to or Disconnect from the Research Use Common Network

Request to Connect

When applying to connect to the Research Use Common Network, you must agree to the following:

  • To connect to the network, the applicant must be a full-time faculty member without “part-time” in their job title.
  • You will be required to enter the information about the head of your laboratory or department into the application form.
  • If the head of the organization where the connection will be installed is different from the head of the organization to which the applicant belongs, information about the head of the organization where the connection will be installed is also required.
  • An application must be submitted for each device (computer or network printer) you wish to connect.
If a device will be used in two or more locations, an application must be submitted for each location, except when the locations are on the same floor of the same building.
  • The application will be valid until the end of the second academic year following the academic year in which the application was submitted.
    • Applications submitted in February 2022 (AY2021) are valid until the end of AY2023.
    • Applications submitted in April 2022 (AY 2022) are valid until the end of AY2024.
  • Wireless LAN devices and broadband routers are not permitted.
  • If you apply using the wrong physical port address, you will not be able to connect to the network.
  • You must apply using the application form. Out-of-date applications will not be accepted.
  • If the room intended for use does not have an information outlet, the applicant (or applicant organization) will be required to install one at their own expense.
  • The applicant must supply cables, hubs, and other items necessary for connecting to the network.
  • Network access generally begins the morning of the following business day but may take more time.
Depending on the connection location, new network equipment may need to be installed above the information outlet and may not be immediately available after an application is submitted.
  • We will contact the applicant and send them a user manual when network access becomes available. Please keep the user manual in a safe place and do not lose it, as you will be asked to return it when your connection expires or when you apply to disconnect from the network.

Request to Disconnect from the Network

If you dispose of equipment or leave your organization before your connection expires, please be sure to submit a request to disconnect from the network via the application form.
Follow the same procedures if the applicant ceases to be a full-time faculty member.

  • You will lose network access on the same day that the form is submitted.
  • After submitting the form, be sure to return the user manual.
  • It is possible to reactivate your network connection on a device that has been disconnected.
  • In cases where the original applicant cannot be contacted, such as when they left their position without submitting a request to disconnect from the network, a request should be submitted by the head of that organization.
