Regarding the Gemini Update (June 21)

In the generative AI tool Gemini provided within the keio.jp environment, new features have been added that allow users to manage their own chat history, following specification changes in Google Workspace for Education.

With this update (June 21, 2026), you can now individually delete any conversation history from your screen or conduct conversations in a mode that does not save history at all.

Newly Added Features

  • Individual Chat History Deletion: You can now manually delete individual past chats or your entire chat history from your screen at any time.
  • Temporary Chat Feature: This mode allows you to start a new conversation with settings that do not save it to your history. Once a certain period of time passes, such as when you close your browser, the chat is automatically deleted and will not appear in your recent chats list.

Main Instructions

1. Deleting Specific Chat History

  1. Open the menu (recent chats list) on the left side of the Gemini screen.
  2. Click the "︙ (three-dot menu)" icon displayed on the right side of the chat title you wish to delete.
  3. Select "Delete" from the menu to immediately remove the conversation from the list and your screen.

2. Using "Temporary Chat" to Avoid Saving History

  1. When starting a new chat from the menu in the top left of the screen, select and enable "Temporary Chat."
  2. Conversations conducted in this mode will not be accumulated in the chat history list on the left.

Important Notes on Usage

Impact on the University Data Retention Policy:

Please note that even if you delete your chat history from your user interface (UI) or use the "Temporary Chat" feature, in accordance with the university-wide security and auditing policy (Google Vault), data retention rules on the administrator side are strictly applied, and logs will be retained for a certain period of time. However, to protect privacy at Keio University, the retained data is not routinely monitored or supervised.

Even after the addition of these features, please continue to comply with the university guidelines for using generative AI, such as the prohibition of entering confidential or personal information and the prohibition of use that violates public order and morals, and ensure appropriate usage.
